Future Barking and Dagenham Youth Zone

Future Barking and Dagenham Youth Zone

13/08/2019

Located on Parsloe Park, Barking and Dagenham Youth Zone will be a purpose-built facility for the borough’s young people aged 8-19, and up to 25 for those with disabilities.

Hosting over 20 action-packed activities, the internal space sees flashes of colour from the blue and purple furniture to bright feature walls reflecting the energising personality of the Youth Zone. Featuring a giant climbing wall, a four-court sports hall, 3G kick pitch, performing art studios and much more, Barking and Dagenham Youth Zone will be open every evening, 7 days a week for all young people in the local borough.

Building work on the project started in January 2018 and saw durability and impact resistance as the key drivers for the internal dry lining specification due to the multi-use of the building. fermacell®  dry lining partitions allowed the project design team to reduce partition types and layers of board without compromising wall system performance. The wall’s smooth, flawless finish was achieved using fermacellTM Fine Surface Treatment (FST), a ready mixed filler that dries within 45 minutes, a fraction of the time if traditional plaster was used.

The £6.5m development was completed by Piperhill construction and received over 4,000 memberships and nearly 20,000 individual visits in the first two months of opening.
